Wyoming signs up for fast-track federal permitting

Wyoming has become the tenth state to align its permitting with the federal FAST-41 process, which covers uranium mining.

Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon and Emily Domenech, executive director of the Federal Permitting Council, signed a memorandum of understanding on 26 October that aligns the state’s infrastructure permitting with FAST-41.

Under the agreement, state and federal agencies can process reviews together, and the state will list its permitting steps for each project on a shared public dashboard. Gordon said all new projects will be subject to FAST-41 from now on.

Wyoming follows Alaska, Tennessee, Idaho, Utah, Missouri, Georgia, Louisiana, Iowa and Nevada. Uranium mining has been eligible for FAST-41 since 2021. One of the projects already tracked is Uranium Energy Corporation’s Sweetwater project in Wyoming, whose environmental review is due to finish in May 2027.
