Westinghouse to study an AP1000 for Slovakia’s Bohunice site
A six-month front-end engineering study will produce a first schedule and budget for the new unit.
Westinghouse will carry out a front-end engineering and design study for JESS, Slovakia’s new nuclear project company. The study covers an AP1000 reactor at Jaslovské Bohunice and will assess the site and draw up a preliminary schedule and budget. A US State Department grant pays for part of it.
Prime Minister Robert Fico said the plant will be built entirely under state ownership, after ČEZ agreed to sell its stake in JESS. Slovakia aims to complete the unit by 2040. Nuclear already supplies more than half of the country’s electricity.
