OPG’s Origin Nuclear to run Poland’s SGE fleet of UK SMRs

A planned joint venture would operate 14 BWRX-300 reactors on three UK sites.

SGE SMR UK, part of Poland’s SGE, and Origin Nuclear, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, have signed a letter of intent to form a UK nuclear operating company.

The venture would run a planned fleet of 14 GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 reactors with 4.2 GW of combined capacity, which SGE says could meet about 11% of UK demand. The first site would host six units, with the first due to start commercial operation in 2034. OPG is already building the first BWRX-300 at Darlington.
