Dow’s X-energy plant in Texas nears a construction permit
The NRC has completed its safety review of the four-unit Xe-100 plant at Seadrift.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission released its final safety evaluation for Long Mott Generating Station on 30 October. It concludes that the plant and the site provide a safety basis for construction, and the agency said a permit decision should follow soon.
The plant, owned by Long Mott Energy, a subsidiary of Dow, would use four X-energy Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, giving 320 MWe in total. It would supply electricity and process steam to Dow’s Seadrift site and send excess power to the grid.
It is the first HTGR application reviewed under the NRC’s technology-inclusive framework.
